As I said before, giving does not open the door of your receiving for God, your will and faith does/do.  Let me take you back to the beginning of the process.

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it,”  (Malachi 3:10 New King James Version).

Yes, God does open the windows (floodgate) of heaven; but have you received all that He wants to give you?  Probably not: in fact, you probably are only getting a trickle.  (I’m in the same boat, so I’m teaching myself too).  God didn’t say that He would open the door to our receiving, but the door to His giving.

Now, tithing makes giving possible.  “How’s that?” you might ask.  Well, look at the verse two before that one, look at Mal. 3:8.

“Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’  In tithes and offerings,” (Malachi 3:8 New King James Version).

According to this verse, and I prayed about it, it’s true, tithing comes before giving.  The differences between the tithe and the offering are that the tithe is the first tenth (a percentage) of your income and it goes to the storehouse (church) where you regularly attend and get fed spiritual food, the offerings can be any amount and can go anywhere.  When I prayed about it God spoke to me and told me that if the tithe doesn’t come first then the offering is not a true offering but an appeasement.  Now, that blew my mind.

It is our giving that unlocks the door for us to receive; but it is our prayers of faith and our wills that open the door for us to receive from God.  What this is saying, what God is saying through this, is that you can give and give, but until you put tithing first, your giving is bubcus; giving without tithing first will make other people think you are “great” but when you start tithing first God will think greatness of you.

Okay, tithing gets God to give to you, giving unlocks the door for you to receive from Him and your prayers of faith and your will opens the door for you to receive.  So, what then?  Let’s all get into a lifestyle of tithing—the first tenth of our income—to our local church—our church where we regularly attend and grow.  Then let’s give to whatever ministry wherever, and pray the prayer of faith and use our will(s) to receive from God.  It may come through anyone God chooses to use; but if you will receive from God it will not be junk.
