He Gave Them for Us

God gave laws, commandments, in both the Old Testament and the New Testament.  Many children of God think that we are not under law but under grace.  Well, aside from the established fact that Jesus is the name of the grace of God, Jesus became the law of God by fulfilling it all.  Hopefully, by now you realize that I’m not talking about the 400-some laws that are in the Old Testament, those called the law of Moses.  God gave the Ten Commandments; so basically, the rest are laws, regulations, demands set by man; by the governing faction, the priestly order, and (believe it or not) they changed a lot.  But the Ten Commandments stay the same.

“If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments,” (John 14:15 Amplified Bible).

Jesus is the Ten Commandments personified.  But Jesus, being God is a human form, also gave us who believe some more commandments, not suggestions.  He gave them in imperative terms,

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father,” (John 14:12 New Living Translation).

The imperative term is “anyone who believes in me will do” because, the negative would say ‘if you don’t do you don’t believe, you’re just faking it.’  That is commanded, not for His sake but for yours.  Ya see, Jesus was a success in life; that’s what He came to do, be a success and show the people that a man under the Abrahamic covenant could live a successful life.  Steadfast in Honor quotes Jesus, in John 14:12, as saying,

“The one who truly has faith in me and my word will do what I have done while I was on the Earth.  People like to copy what successful people do to bring them success; well I am a successful person, actually, I am the successful person, so copy Me.  When I am back with the Father and you are doing what I was doing, then you will also do even greater things,” (John 14:12 Steadfast in Honor).

Yes, doing all this does show Jesus that you love Him, but doing these things also tells Him that you want to be successful in life as a true child of God who is also a disciple of Jesus.

Yes, doing all this does show Jesus that you love Him, but doing these things also tells Him that you want to be successful in life as a true child of God who is also a disciple of Jesus.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the realm of heaven’s kingdom. It is only those who persist in doing the will of my heavenly Father.  On the day of judgment many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, don’t you remember us? Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we cast out demons and do many miracles for the sake of your name?’  But I will have to say to them, ‘Go away from me, you lawless rebels! I’ve never been joined to you!’” (Matthew 7:21-23 The Passion Translation).

These people were doing these things to get to heaven, they weren’t doing them with the right motive.  They weren’t doing them with the motive of pure love for their fellow creation of God.  Paul talked about that in 1 Corinthians where he said that if he does these thing without love, “have not love,” meaning without being guided by love, it profits him nothing.  He was saying that if he was born of Love (a born of God, Christian) and he did these things, not being moved by love to do them but because he thought that it would get him to heaven, he still wouldn’t get there and it would all be for nothing.

Ya see, you should be doing these things but, you should be doing them because love would have you~~

The Lord just interrupted me with a thought.  Remember the seven sons of Sceva.  At the time people were driving out demons.  The seven sons of a priest named Sceva did this too.  They entered a house, went up to the possessed man and said, “In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, come out of him.”  Well, they were not born of Love (born of God) and the demon knew it, and what happened?  To make a short story even shorter, they were defeated.

If you are born of Love and you do these things, not because of love but for money’s sake, you do not do a good thing, like 1 Corinthians says.

So, yes, you do need to do these things that Jesus did, but not just because you love Him.  Do them because He loves you.
