Do You Understand?

Does everybody understand other tongues?  Ya know, some people even fear other tongues, tongues (languages) that they don’t understand.  Believe it or not, this is one reason for wars, because one side doesn’t understand the speech of the other.  An American might know only English and he tells a joke (a perfectly harmless joke) to a Mexican who knows Spanish and English.  That Mexican turns to his friend who knows only Spanish and tells him the same joke in Spanish.  The American doesn’t know what the Mexican is saying because he is speaking Spanish, and there is no laughter because his friend didn’t get the joke.  This sparks fear because there are 2 or more big Mexican dudes and there is only one American; the American feels like throwing a punch but he is too intimidated.

The first physical evidence of the Holy Spirit baptism is speaking in unknown tongues (tongues that no human can understand); and since they are not understood many people fear them and attack them.

“These are some of the signs that will accompany believers: They will throw out demons in my name, they will speak in new tongues,” (Mark 16:17 The Message).

The fear is that when they are praying in tongues they don’t understand what they are saying to God and they fear it.  They are not in control of what they are praying, God the Holy Spirit is and they fear that.  This is a matter of trust.  These people say they love God; but do they really trust Him, He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?

Those things that Jesus said would accompany believers (disciples, true Christians) are the very works that Jesus did.  He is the greatest manager of life that ever existed.  Then he told us to do what He did.

“I can guarantee this truth: Those who believe in me will do the things that I am doing. They will do even greater things because I am going to the Father,” (John 14:12 GOD’S WORD Translation).

Now, wait a minute, I just saw something here.  Jesus said that those who BELIEVE will do.  So, what if you don’t do?  Right here I am not talking about the greater works but the very things that Jesus did; of course, He’s not talking about being crucified for them, that wouldn’t work.  By the way, the word believe here means trust, obey as dear children who love Jesus and partake.  So, I gather that if you don’t or won’t do (when the need arises) then perhaps you don’t truly believe.  It’s really that simple; believe and do or don’t do and don’t believe.

Yes, I mentioned love because if you don’t obey Jesus then you don’t love Him, and you’re only lying if you say you do.  And if you’re not obeying Him then you definitely don’t trust Him.  Let’s look at that from another viewpoint.  You say you love Jesus but you don’t do the works (things) that He did.  Well, according to verse 14:12 of John and according to Jesus Himself, if you don’t or won’t do (when the need arises) then you don’t trust Him.  And if you don’t trust Him then you really don’t believe Him and so you don’t really love Him; therefore, you’re lying just to be accepted.
