Obsessed

Simply put, an obsession is something that controls your thoughts, dreams and actions.  Many preachers have been accused of being obsessed with money because it seems that all they preach about is financial prosperity.  But, the only reason for this is that when these preachers preach about everything else that they peach their preaching is not remembered by the hearer.  And this is probably because the hearer is the one who is obsessed with money.  They are the very people who say, ‘Money is the root of all evil.’  I really don’t know where they find that in Scripture.

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs,” (1 Timothy 6:10 New International Version).

As a preacher I heard said, you can commit that sin without even having a dime to you name.  No, the reason they preach prosperity is because God wants them to.

“Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication and want what is right for me;  Let them say continually, ‘Let the Lord be magnified, who delights and takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant,’” (Psalm 35:27 Amplified Bible).

But, prosperity effects and involves much more than just money, in other words money is not all there is to prosperity.  Prosperity works in the arenas of spiritual prosperity (learning and walking in godly wisdom), social prosperity (who you know and who knows you), physical prosperity (a healthy, whole body that is not dependent on the world), then comes financial prosperity (having enough for you and enough to give away).  When this is evident the name of the Lord will go forth and be magnified and praised.  Then the popular phrase will be proclaimed from the rooftops, “Look what God has done!”

But I do understand why people think these preachers are obsessed with money: it’s not that they are, but they need money to do what they are doing.  I put an ad on Facebook about having a class online, using Skype and having tests when right and the works; and I asked who would take the class.  I got one response; a guy said that I should do it free because I got the info free.  Well, Skype would be free for him to reach me, but I would have to pay to get many people on at once (a conference call), the internet cost me a rate each month, materials cost (charts, the camera and tripod, all that good stuff), I would have to pay for it.  So, although the info is free, nothing else is.  I’m not saying this to shame you but sometimes I need to clear things up for some people who refuse to think.

So, who is obsessed with money, those who have plenty, who tell people how to obtain it and what to do with it, or those who don’t have much?

Myself, I write books, don’t charge for ebooks, I make Bile Study videos and put them on Facebook and Youtube; I don’t make anyone pay me for any of the things I put out.  I buy the cameras, the tripods, I pay the internet and all the bills.  I have been on Social Security personally and supporting this ministry out of that for 30 years but God also wants to use you to support this ministry.  But the choice is yours.  What are you going to do, be obsessed with the financial difficulty you’re in or support a ministry like Bread of Life International Ministries?
