It is because of man’s misconception of Acts 20:35 that most people are either broke or workaholics.  If they are on disability they hold back, maybe thinking they are exempt from God’s giving policy and they don’t tithe either because they don’t work.  Or, if they work they need to work 16 hours per day so that they can make enough to give and keep giving.

Neither of those things are God’s will; and that misconception, propagated by preachers with a bad understanding of the Bible, has misled many people into thinking that they should give to the church and not bother with receiving from God.

“Anyone who is kind to poor people lends to the Lord.   God will reward them for what they have done,” (Proverbs 19:17 New International Reader’s Version).

How is God going to reward anyone if they don’t receive from Him?  Yes, of course God gives it through man, but the source is God and not man.

If you are on disability for any reason, whether hospitalization difficulties or other complications, they think they are your source of finances.  But they are only a channel for God to bless you, if you will allow God to be the source.  I can remember a while back when I was in Oklahoma.  I was on Social Security and I went to their office for some reason, I had to bring them a copy of my bank records.  The man at the window saw that my dad had put $250 in my account because of a need.  So, he thought that I had another source besides Social Security.  Well, the money was for a dental need that my insurance didn’t cover and Social Security didn’t give me enough money for.  But, Social Security isn’t my source anyway; I’m a tither and I love it, so God is my source.

Now, you may have heard that God can use anyone to get it to you.  You also may have heard that God does not use the unbeliever.  The first statement is true, God can use anyone; but allow me to clarify it.  God can use believers, hopefully at their will because then they can get a reward for it, if they will receive.  God can also use the unbeliever, but only if they don’t know that it is God, they just will never get a reward.  I say that because if the unbeliever knows that it is God, they probably will rebel.

I have family who weren’t believers when I lived in Tulsa.  Now, I’m sure God’s best is to get His own, believers, to be His channels of blessing. But He will do get the blessing to His obedient people anyway.  He used my unbelieving family to get blessings over to me.  He gave me a few new computers; he gave me a house to rent for a ridiculously low rent.  Then He made it possible for me, a guy on disability, to buy my own house; again, I got an incredibly low mortgage.   Mortgages are not wrong, borrowing money is not wrong.

Now I live in Kansas and God is still blessing me, but now it is through believers and, again, it is good stuff.  My family is still being used to give me computers, they’re not brand new computers but they work well.

Now, the ministry that I am a pastor of has started a church and could, very much, use some of God’s, believers all over the world, to get in the act of being used by God to bless this ministry with Bibles, furniture, money and whatever God puts on your heart to give.  But, when you do your giving, whether in partnership with this ministry—Bread of Life International Ministries—and me—Pastor Winner Torborg of The House of Shalom—or someone else, remember to pray according to God’s word for what you desire and will to believe and receive it.
