Do You Love Me?

“If you love Me, you will keep My commands,” (John 14:15 Holman Christian Standard Bible).

How many people have called Jesus Lord?  They say they love the Lord; they also say they believe in Jesus.  But Jesus asks a very, very completed but simple question; it is so simple that if you don’t think about it you are definitely missing it, especially if you are not doing what Jesus did.

I’m sure one or more of you would immediately blurt out, “Of course I love Jesus, He’s my Lord.”

I would have to say:  Well, that’s good to hear.  Do you do what He said?  Do you do what He has written in His four gospels?  Do you do what Jesus commanded in Mark 16:17-18?  And don’t give me the excuse that those verses were not in the original manuscript because you don’t know.

Let’s get down to brass tax; does will mean might or can?  How about keep My commands; does that mean just read them or wait until you are called into the office of pastor and then you decide what He wants you to do?  No will, as used here, means that if you say that you love Jesus then you are expected to, and keep My commands simply means do what I had written and said.

Allow me to turn that verse around so that you may see it clearer, “you will keep My commands if you love Me.”  Now, that’s pretty clear, don’t you think?  Now, read this, “If you don’t keep My commands then you don’t love me.”  Yeah, I know, that’s hard for some of you to take, but you’ve still got time to change; the rapture hasn’t happened yet.

“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father,” (John 14:12 New International Version);

Jesus was saying these things to those who sad that they believed and loved Him.  Why do you think He did this?  Some people will answer, “Because actions speak louder than words.”  Well, that would seem right, but your word must come first then the action should back it up.  He was telling them, “You say you believe in Me as Lord, you say you love Me; now, prove it.”

Jesus started a work (Acts 1:1); death didn’t stop Him (He’s back); now He wants to finish His work through those who love and believe in Him as Lord.  The only one who can stop His work from being done through you is you.

Do you believe in Jesus as Lord?  Do you do what He did?  Are you Holy Spirit enveloped like Jesus (Acts 10:38, Acts 1:8) and pray in tongues (Mark 16:17)?  Do you cast out demons in Jesus’ name when you are confronted (Mark 16:17)?  Do you lay hands on the sick when the opportunity arises (Mark 16:18)?  Jesus did all these things; he also tithed and gave, there’s nothing written but given time I could prove it, and He preached and taught prosperity.  What’s the good news to the poor (Luke 4:18)?  Jesus didn’t preach that Jesus has risen.  He preached that the poor don’t have to be poor no more because God loves them.  That’s prosperity, my friend.

So, why did Jesus do these things, and why does He want you to do the same?  Well, what is the best way to show a demon-possessed man that God loves him?  To send him to a mental ward and let him rot there or to drive that unwanted demon out in the name of authority (Jesus)?  What is better to do for someone who is sick, how do you show him that God loves him?  To let him go the world to try to be healed by their iffy ways, or to use God’s sure fire way and lay hands on him and pray?  Jesus did all these things that He did because of God’s love for them.  And if you believe in Jesus and you believe that He loves them too then do what Jesus did.
